"No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you."
- Joshua 1:5
It's been a year since the crisis started in the US, which led to a global depression. And during that time we have seen many companies going out of business and disappearing from the stage.
That was like a tsunami destroying a seaside town, where it must have had high and low tides all the time. Although recovery takes time, people and nature will work together to rebuild the community. Likewise, we are seeing a glimpse of hope around the world.
There are concerns about a double dip down turn in early next year, but most likely this down turn will not have the same impact as it did previously. In fact, we have experienced abnormal up-turn market in the last 2~3 months.
Today, let us think about the survival strategies during this abnormal economic cycle.
Our keyword is still "Survival."
Just like how we experienced an extreme down turn market, we should be prepared for an abnormal up turn market. This survival strategy, which I mentioned in my 'Morning Letter no.23,' is correctly understanding our position (environment), and fully focusing on what we can do.
Then, where do you think we are?
First, we were able to significantly increase our market share during this depression. Consequently, our product can be found in 1 in every 3 PCs worldwide. "An increase in market share during recession will lead to an increase in sales accordingly during economic boom" is the strategy we need to point out.
Second, our manufacturing competitiveness strengthened substantially. This is not what few people or teams did, but what our manufacturing, research, planning, finance and all other supporting departments have done by working as one team. We manufactured the best products at cheapest cost in this global market.
Now that we correctly understood where our position was, let' think about what we have to do next.
Our business environment is going through a paradigm shift faster than ever. We now have to challenge ourselves to adjust to a new paradigm. That is transitioning from manufacturing "cheaper than our competitors" to "faster than our competitors."
I once told you about an 'instrument flight' and a 'contact flight.'
As the pilot is more skilled, he will not rely just on his experience or sight, but also on the instrument panel and the control tower to protect people and himself in a dangerous situation.
To this date our economic cycle has not been normal, but very unstable like a plane experiencing turbulence. This is when we need to understand our position and focus on what we can do like how an "instrument flight" works.
By focusing on our increased market share and new paradigm, 'manufacturing faster,' let's not only survive, but also show the world that we can outdo the challenges that we face.
