Dear SIMMTECH Family,
'Timing' is when a ripe apple drops from a tree, and a 'Chance' is being under that tree catch it. Today, we will talk about the reasons for building a new R&D center in Ochang which will be completed in the end of June. The R&D center will be a reinforcement of 'Technology Only!', which is the slogan for the year.
It is important that we do not underestimate the need to clearly understand what timing and a chance mean.
Looking back at the decisions we've made since establishing SIMMTECH in 1987, they can be classified into two major categories. First, we have made decisions on our own for the best interest for the company not to lose the chances we confronted. Second, our customers have made decisions, and we had to patiently wait until we were chosen as their strategic partner.
There once was a time when I stayed in a corner room of the Factory No. 1, and worked through the hot summer nights with you to improve productivity. Also, I am sure that you will remember the time when the Production team, R&D team and all the other supporting teams worked tirelessly to meet the production quotas while building Factories No. 2, 3, and 4.
Although we made decisions on our own and did our best, we had to wait for a long period of time until fitting people came to the appropriate departments and perform as expected. Furthermore, as many of you know, we had to wait until there was a demand of the product that we developed. And it took nearly 10 years for BOC market to emerge.
I believe that those were the best decision for SIMMTECH. Traditionally the PCB industry is very competitive, and is driven by customer orders that require production through highly technological intensive equipment. That is to say, customer's choice triggers business. Thus, our competitive edge is our ability to provide products that our customers need. In other words, it is the matter of having the competitiveness in technology, manufacturing, production capacity, quality, and customer service and communication means with the customers.
We have been already proven to be the No. 1 competitor in the Memory Module PCB global market, and we our competitiveness now faces a challenge in the new industry of Substrate market. We are putting all of our effort to make the best out of this challenge, and will wait for our customer's decision.
It is true how semiconductor substrate, the 'Evolved PCB', caught up with the 1980's tightness of the line and space of the 4 in. wafer in technological aspect, and this gives the reason for developing new technology for the next generation substrate first.
With the company's full support, we are building the R&D center to gain the most market share in the substrate market, and to let our engineers freely research and develop new products and technology.
The primary purpose of this R&D center is to differentiate ourselves from our competitors by first developing next generation products that our customers want, and by focusing on technological development to strengthen our competitive edge for today and tomorrow. Our R&D should not be a mere research for the purposes of just research.
I would like to clearly differentiate our R&D center from our competitors, like how our 'Choice and Focus' strategy in the PCB market was proven successful in many ways. We will choose to focus on the technology that our customers will want and will be used in mass production in the next 1~2 years.
Everyone, the opportunity is already here. It is up to us not to let this chance pass by, and catch the falling apples to fill up the basket. Let's make our customers choose us first through developing technology that they want.
I firmly believe that our differentiation strategy, which started from our 'Choice and Focus', will concentrate on technology and eventually let us survive in this unlimitedly competing substrate market.
